Cambridge, UK, was the clear choice for the first Microsoft Research lab established outside of the United States, due to its rich history as a centre of higher learning and growing global impact as a leading high-tech hub. From a beginning of just three researchers in 1997, to over 130 researchers and engineers today, the lab has established itself as a highly credible academic partner and flowing pipeline of technology transfers into the Microsoft business.
